PROJECT IN PRACTICE

The fieldwork is the starting point.

01

The need

In the field, a location is only part of the story. Object records, drawings, terrain and map coverage also need to be accessible.

02

What I built

A custom Android workspace for object databases, GPS, DEM terrain data, map layers and survey documents, including offline maps and local data.

03

The practical value

A field user can move between a mapped object, its record and its drawings in one application, with offline tools for prepared fieldwork.

My role: design and development of the application and its data workflows.

BUILT AROUND THE FIELDWORK

Records, maps and documents.
One connected workflow.

Object databases

Bring records, coordinates and survey drawings together. Connect cloud-backed member workflows with data available on the device.

Maps & terrain

Manage map layers, offline coverage and MBTiles. Use digital elevation models (DEM) for terrain heights and relief context.

GPS & navigation

Locate objects, work with waypoints and record tracks. Inspect satellite status, reported accuracy, heading and altitude.

Documents & formats

Find drawings by object through Google Drive or add local documents. Drawing formats include JPG, PNG, TIFF, WebP and PDF.

ACTUAL APPLICATION SCREENS

Built for practical use.

Map layers, MBTiles and imported field data
Control your map layers and imported data.
Object coordinates, DEM elevation and linked survey drawing
Connect a location to its records and drawings.
Satellite status and location diagnostics
Understand the device’s location status.

THE ENGINEERING BEHIND IT

A custom product.
A connected data foundation.

Kotlin, Jetpack Compose and osmdroid support the Android experience. Supabase-backed databases and member roles connect the wider SOV system; local data and offline maps support field use.
